Senior Propulsion Engineer

Position Overview

Location: Huntsville, AL

Type: Full Time


Position Description:

HyBird Space Systems is seeking a Senior Propulsion Engineer to take a hands-on leadership role in designing, developing, and testing cutting-edge rocket propulsion systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of solid, liquid, and hybrid propulsion technologies, shaping the future of space mobility and advanced aerospace systems.


As a key technical leader at a rapidly growing startup, you will have the flexibility and autonomy to drive propulsion system development from clean-sheet design through flight qualification. This role is multi-disciplinary, requiring a mix of engineering expertise, problem-solving, and hands-on testing, with opportunities to contribute across design, analysis, manufacturing, integration, and flight testing. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and customers to push the boundaries of propulsion innovation.


Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze advanced rocket propulsion systems, including solid and hybrid engines.
  • Lead development and testing of propulsion components, ensuring performance and reliability.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for propulsion components.
  • Support advanced R&D for new technology products.
  • Support advanced R&D fornew technology products. and customers.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related STEM discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with rocket engine design, analysis, and testing.
  • Hands-on experience in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in propulsion analysis tools (CFD, finite element analysis, etc.).
  • Other experience in aerospace modelling and simluation.
  • Familiarity with propulsion testing facilities and safety protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience in fast-paced R&D environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in collaborative teams.
  • Experience with hands-on manufacturing processes for rocket propulsion systems.

To conform to U.S. Government technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) Employees must be a U.S. citizen, lawful U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State and/or the U.S. Department of Commerce, as applicable.
